Northern Lights Promise
Winter is perhaps the most incredible time of year to explore the snow-covered landscape of the Norwegian coast - and the best time to experience the Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights.
A natural phenomena, the Northern Lights occur when the solar wind is stronger than usual, and electrically charged particles from the sun hurl toward Earth. The particles, electrons, and protons form a magical light when they collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere. The electromagnetic radiation creates undulating ribbons of light that vary in shape, strength, and color. When the Northern Lights appear, the polar sky materializes in all its beauty as a canvas of light being pulled across the sky.
This phenomena is more likely to happen in the winter months; in fact, Hurtigruten is so confident that the Northern Lights will make an appearance during that time of year, that they have two incredible offers:
- If the Northern Lights do not appear during your 12-Day Roundtrip Cruise between October and March, we will offer you a 7-Day Cruise North or a 6-Day Cruise South, completely free of charge!
- If the Northern Lights do not appear during your Magic of the Arctic Winter expedition cruise between December and February, we will offer you another Magic of the Arctic Winter expedition cruise, completely free of charge!
