What makes OUR planning EXTRAordinary (Show Transcript)
Hey everybody! This is Scott from Extraordinary Adventures again, and you're listening to the third episode of EA Radio. Today we're going to discuss...
What makes OUR planning EXTRAordinary
Now, let me say right from the get go that this episode will be one big plug for our services. After all, the title is "What makes OUR planning EXTRAordinary."
Now, with that out of the way, let's carry on.
Now, not only am I the owner of Extraordinary Adventures, I am also the guy in charge of making sure YOUR adventure is nothing less than EXTRAordinary.
So, if you will indulge me for just a moment, I would like to tell you something about myself. I work hard on and in my business, I try to maintain my fitness goals, I always make time for my wife of twenty-six years, Laura (who you will be meeting in future episodes), I make time for our three doggies, Albert, Huckleberry, and Edison, I am learning the German and Spanish languages (ein bisschen mehr Deutsch als Spanisch, pero hablo un poco de español también), I research and study travel-related content constantly, I am there for my friends, and, every once in awhile, I even get to travel. So yeah, you could say I am a pretty busy guy. And, as a busy guy, when it is time for some R&R, I expect more. Whatever the cost, I have earned it.
Now, let me tell you something I know about you, without ever having met you. You're a busy person, too. How do I know this? You're here on our website! Clearly, you want to travel, but you realize that planning travel can be a daunting and time-consuming process when done right. You may also realize that getting it right takes expertise and research and the right connections. With all that you already have on your plate, you know that finding and hiring the RIGHT help can free you from the time it will take and the mental energy it will consume to plan a truly EXTRAordinary trip. And, like me, you expect more because you, too, have earned it.
That's where we come in! But, we're not free. There's a cost to hiring us. Why? Because we work hard for our clients. We put in the hours. We put in the mental energy. We make ourselves available to them. We prioritize them. Yet, that's not all we do. The time and effort could be replaced by your own time and effort.
It is the "secret sauce" that turns an ordinary vacation into an EXTRAordinary Adventure! We have worked hard to learn the "whats, wheres, whens, and hows" of travel. We have professional connections around the world. We have tools and tricks at our disposal. We have associates we can turn to for support and guidance when our own knowledge and experience falls short. After all, an expert is not one who knows everything about a subject. An expert is one who knows a lot, but also knows how to gain access to what he/she does not know. Most importantly, an expert knows how to use the information in the most effective way.
So that is why we charge a planning fee and why we mention it up front. Naturally, we offer a free, no obligation initial consultation to help ensure that we are BOTH a good fit for one another. Once we BOTH decide that we are, we move on to the planning stage and only then do we require the nonrefundable planning fee. The fee amount depends on the nature of your trip, the length of travel, and/or the size of your traveling party. (But, don't forget, we do waive our planning fee for most cruise vacations!) Once the fee is paid in full, we get started. This fee IS SEPARATE from the cost of your trip, remember, so if you change the nature or scope of your trip or if you want to completely cancel it, you will forfeit the planning fee. Why? Because most of the time and effort that goes into your trip is done during the planning stages. The booking part itself isn't all that hard. Booking is not really what you're paying us for. As I mentioned earlier, you're paying for the "secret sauce."
Anyway, enough about that. I merely wanted to present it because we believe in transparency and honesty, so we are very candid with our clients. You will never get a surprise from us, unless it is a good one!
Speaking of good surprises, you may have noticed that I have not yet addressed what makes OUR planning EXTRAordinary. When you read through our "About" page, you will gain some insight into "EXTRAordinary." However, let me give you some examples to make it more tangible.
Imagine yourself at the Oktoberfest in Germany. You walk around inside and outside the tents and have a pretty good time. OR! Imagine instead that you get a seat at the table with your new German friends and yell "Prost!" with the best of them! You could get a private tour and learn why there even is an Oktoberfest in the first place, while you gain access to places others do not even know exist!
Or imagine yourself in Hawaii, enjoying the beaches and the beauty of those volcanic islands and have a pretty good time. OR! Imagine a helicopter ride straight into a volcano! You could shark dive! You could meet the Polynesian people, eat their foods, and learn about their history and culture! You could take surfing lessons on some of the world's most famous waves!
Next, picture Rome. You take a hop on/hop off bus tour and see the sights and have a pretty good time. OR! You could be privately guided into Catholicism's most revered places before they open to the public! You could be led deep into the Roman Coliseum and immerse yourself in the Gladiator's experience! You could learn about the architecture, the sculptures, the frescos, and the history that surround them! Best yet, you could go to hidden treasures where only locals know to go to get the best food and wine in the Eternal City!
To make a long story short, you COULD go to London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Paris, Johannesburg, St. Petersburg, Cairo, or Athens in the ordinary way and have a pretty good time. OR! You could let us do what we do best and show you these cities in the most EXTRAordinary ways! You could ski, mountain bike, cruise, hike, scuba, eat, drink, or sightsee in the ordinary, touristy way. OR! We can show you OUR way! The less beaten path. The backdoors. The hidden gems. The places only we and our partners know about. Your next vacation does not have to be ordinary. With us planning it, it could be EXTRAordinary!
Now, you should know that we truly appreciate the trust our clients put in us. People sometimes overlook the significance of taking a vacation, but we believe they are essential to our well-being. So, we take their trust very seriously. We consider ourselves privileged to be granted that trust and we work incredibly hard to exceed their expectations. So, just as a quick little bullet-point list, here's what we handle...
Basically, we handle everything! From the moment you leave your home until the moment you return again, we plan it all.
So, where do YOU dream of traveling to?
Many travel agents can handle a simple booking on a mass-market cruise line or a trip to Las Vegas, as can we. And if that's all you want, we're happy to do it. But, if you're looking for something special in travel, something unique, something jaw-dropping, something eye-opening, something that makes your spirit soar and engages your mind, something that fills you with emotion, then you want an EXTRAordinary adventure travel specialist - and that's us!
Okay, that's the show for today. I hope you have a better appreciation now of what makes OUR planning EXTRAordinary. If you want to learn more, head over to our website at myextraordinaryadventures.com or, better yet, give us a call at (352) 536-1581 for your free, no obligation, initial consultation.

Why Use A Good Travel Planner (Show Transcript)
Hey everybody! This is Scott from Extraordinary Adventures, and you're listening to the second episode of EA Radio. Today we're going to discuss...
Why Use A Good Travel Planner
Let me start off with a great quote I found from David Liotta, of Flight Centre, on travelmarketreport.com...
He says... "Here's the Starbucks Analogy. One of the most popular and successful companies in America makes and sells something that almost everyone is capable of making for themselves at home. But people want the experience of buying from Starbucks, which includes the atmosphere and the skills of the barista. Starbucks also creates specialized products, and they are experts in putting them together. You can get all sorts of fancy, complex drinks you didn't even think of before. Sure, you can make coffee at home, but how many of us would be able to create a complex concoction, and do it with the speed and consistency of a Starbucks barista? Because of all this, people readily pay more to buy from Starbucks, and no one would ever think of demanding that they price-match McDonald's coffee or complain to the barista that they could make the same thing themselves."
Now, since you're listening to this episode and may have already visited our website (www.myextraordinaryadventures.com), I am assuming you may already know some of the benefits of using a travel planner. But, if not, here is a short list of reasons.
First, travel is becoming more complicated. With seemingly tons of new cruise ships being built, new resorts, and new airline fare categories, keeping up with the options isn't easy. Add to that, that some of you may want to plan a trip with small groups, like family reunions, bachelorette parties, corporate getaways, etc. Take the typical complexity and ratchet it up 10 fold! Now, hiring the RIGHT planner who can help with the logistics can have a significant impact on how much you spend and, more importantly, how much you enjoy your vacation.
Next up, travel ideas! Sometimes you don't know where to go, sometimes you do. And, when you don't, a good travel planner can provide insights and guidance.
Which brings me to STRESS! Imagine combining the plethora of options out there with having zero idea of where you even want to go! And you think the internet is going to help with that? Heck no! The internet will just overwhelm you more and lead to consumer confusion. And, the internet is the wild west, with, unfortunately, a lot of bad players who do not have your best interests in mind. Some of them are flat out fraudulent! So, if you hire a good travel planner for no other reason aside from removing this stress from your life, that would be enough!
But then, there is also the time saved. A good travel planner works tirelessly on behalf of their clients, freeing them to be with family, get more sleep, or simply lie on the couch and binge watch Game of Thrones! (I knew all along who would win! Not! Can you believe that ending!?)
Anyway, back to our story.
One of the best reasons to hire a good travel planner is because there are times when things go bad, things go wrong. No one wants to think about having problems before, during, or after their travels, but it is a reality. Things do go wrong. And, the online booking sites are notorious for not being there for you when you need them most. A good travel planner is always there!
Speaking of bad things, sadly some people book with the online players and wind up with a totally different experience than what they saw in the photos. Unfortunately, you can't undo a bad vacation. You can try to get your money back, but good luck with that! Besides, think of the time you'd waste sitting on hold! Ugh! A good travel planner does their homework in advance, helping to ensure the best possible vacation.
Now, I keep saying "good" - "a good travel planner." What do I mean by "good?" I mean someone who is invested in YOU. Someone who is not just competent in the mechanics of booking a trip, but one who also cares about the outcome. A good travel planner who gets to know their clients can match their client with the right destination, the right hotel, the right airline, the right activity, the right dining experiences, and more. I will try not to plug our agency TOO much on this radio program, BUT... Our clients are not customers. We do not look at our relationship as transactional. And, if we are doing our jobs well, they don't see it that way either. We are their trusted advisor. Honestly, we become travel friends. We value open and honest communication with them, because it is important to us that our clients feel as relaxed and confident as possible. They want to know that they are in good hands - that they are in the hands of someone who isn't just trying to sell them something. A good travel planner should be as invested as a client is in making sure the client's trip is packed full of positive, lifelong memories. After all, a good travel planner is not just another online booking site. A good travel planner is there before, during, and after their client's trips.
And then there is health and safety. The online booking site and the transactional travel agent don't concern themselves with that. They see that as something that's on you - your responsibility. But, a good travel planner will check the weather, the news, the State Department's travel warnings, etc. Anything that could become a potential issue for their client is a potential issue for a good travel planner.
Next, on to money! Money is always the 600-pound gorilla in the room. So, we have to address it. A good travel planner may not always be the cheapest, but is the cheapest really what you want? Or do you want the best VALUE? Paying less to stay in a hotel an hour away from your destination may seem to be cheaper, but is it? If you're an hour away, how do you get anywhere? Trains, buses, or rental cars are all possibilities, but guess what? They cost money! They also cost you something far more valuable than money - they cost you time. No matter how long your travels last - one week, two weeks, a month, doesn't matter - can you really afford to lose an hour to and from your "cheaper" hotel? Does it sound like a good value to lose 2 hours a day to you? It doesn't to us. And that's just one example of how cheap does not equal value. And then sometimes, we actually can find stuff cheaper than you can online. That is not what you are paying a good travel planner for, but it is nice when it happens. What is also lovely are perks! A good travel planner is usually a part of their industry's organizations. As such, they are often able to get their clients value add-ons, even if they can't do better on the price. So, a $100 hotel room is a lot better when that same $100 hotel room also comes with free breakfast, a transfer to and from the airport, or a free room upgrade! And don't even get us started on the perks we can get for our clients on cruises! How does a free flight to Europe sound when you're booking a river cruise down the Danube? A good travel planner has tricks up their sleeves!
Speaking of tricks, the "secret sauce" that a good travel planner whips up is definitely one of the best reasons to use them. As we say here, "Your vacation does not have to be ordinary. Let us show you what we mean by EXTRAordinary!" You simply won't get EXTRAordinary from a transactional travel agent or an online booking site, unless you yourself do the legwork yourself. But, if you have to do the legwork, what good are they?
Alright, before this episode runs 10 hours long, let me sum up. You CAN cut your own hair and you CAN do your own taxes and you CAN EVEN brew your own coffee, but you know that a hairstylist, an accountant, and a barista can do it better. And guess what? You CAN plan your own vacation, too, but I don't suggest it.
(Now, let me apologize for my cuckoo clock going off in the background. Hence, home-based agent! Anyway...)
That's the show for today. I hope you have a better appreciation now of what a good travel planner can do for you. If you're still unconvinced, head over to our website at www.myextraordinaryadventures.com to learn even more about why you should use a good travel planner.

"Whatever Americans are looking for in Germany, they’ll find it in Dresden, Germany – Germany’s most beautiful city gem – and its surrounding Elbland. Saxony’s capital has great art museums, awe-inspiring architecture, castles, churches, culture, history, and Luther traces. Visitors can enjoy music, rivers, and mountains, dozens of castles and parks, plus wine, beer, and other culinary delights. They’ll also discover Germany’s traditions and customs.
"Dresden Elbland is a living book of German History. The glory of the Kingdom of Saxony, the dark episode of WWII, the communist era of GDR, the striking marks of the Peaceful Revolution and German Unification, and the modern development can all be experienced here.
"Dresden is steeped in great music tradition as well. Composers such as Schütz, Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Weber, Wagner, and Strauss lived or worked here. World-renowned artists and institutions, such as Semperoper, Staatskapelle Dresden, Dresden Philharmonic, State Operetta, Dresden Kreuzchor, and Frauenkirche Dresden ensembles keep this tradition alive every day. New artists set their counterpoints.
"There are also events all year long with activities for everyone. Seniors, millennials, singles, families with children, and LGBT travelers can all enjoy their personal approach to Dresden and the Elbland. Religious travelers, art and music lovers, brand shoppers, river cruisers and sports enthusiasts will also find much to see and do here."

If you have read the post titled "Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Expert," you know that I am a big fan of their cruise line. But, here comes the surprise twist at the end... I cheat on Royal Caribbean with other cruise lines! (insert suspenseful music here)
I know! Blasphemy! The #LoyalToRoyal crowd is ready to throw me overboard! But, I have enough love in my heart for all the lines. Why pick just one when they all have incredible and varying offerings?
I love that "fun" is the priority on Carnival. I love the "freestyle" way things are done on Norwegian. I love that Princess is laser-focused on the ports of call and wants you to "Come Back New" every time you sail with them. I love that Cunard has the only true ocean liner for its transatlantic crossings. I love that MSC and Virgin are tirelessly working their butts off as the newest players in the Caribbean market and are blowing everyone's mind with what they're coming up with. And, I love that they are all trying to one-up each other with the latest and greatest things they can dream up! It all means a big win for us!
I also love what the premium lines are doing by including everything. I love that they have smaller ships that can get to places the big boys can't. I love that their itineraries offer ports way outside of the norm.
And, I love the luxury lines! But hey, who doesn't!? The service! The pampering! The quality! If you can afford it, it's the only way to go!
It's the only way to go unless you're on a river, that is. Then you may want a riverboat! But yes, there are luxury riverboats, too. In fact, they run the gamut, but in reality, they are all very swanky! And yet, their swankiness is merely icing on the cake. Where riverboats shine is in their ability to take you where seafaring cruise ships cannot. Think of it - before there were planes, trains, and automobiles, we transported goods along our oceans and rivers by ships and boats. That's why societies of yesteryear grew up around the water. So, when you're on a riverboat cruise, you step off, not an hour's bus ride away from the action, but right in the middle of it! River cruises are not for Broadway shows and ice-skating rinks. They are for upscale elegance, astounding service, fine dining, and ACCESS, ACCESS, ACCESS!!
So yes, I cheat on Royal Caribbean. Sorry, Royal. But, don't worry! You were my first, and you will always feel like "coming home."
If there is one mass-market cruise line I know better than all the rest, it is the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCL). In their Crown & Anchor Society (loyalty program), I have achieved "Emerald" status, which one receives after 55 nights on board an RCL ship - I have 60. Additionally, I have two more cruises planned with Royal. So, you could say that I am a fan of what they are doing over there at Royal Caribbean International. You could say it and you would be right.
I took my first cruise with Royal on March 24, 2007, on their Legend Of The Seas (retired) for a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise, and it was love at first wave! Since then, I have been on the following:
It is safe to say that I will continue my climb in their Crown & Anchor society as long as they keep on delivering the same cruises experience I have come to think of as "coming home."
